About Prairie Moon, Evanston

Located in downtown Evanston, Prairie Moon restaurant has been serving “good lookin’ scratch cookin'” since 2002. Using fresh ingredients and authentic preparations, we bring the vast and exceptional culinary flavors and traditions from around the United States to Evanston. From the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Northwest, Maine to Southern California, our menu features the dishes and flavors that drive our country’s culinary heritage. In addition to our regular menu, we have daily and weekly specials that deep dive into specific states or regions.

We have a large dining room with a section for semi-private parties and a magnificent bar made from a repurposed Michigan bowling alley lane. The back-bar comes from an old South Chicago bar called McCormicks. Stop in and we’ll tell you all about it.

We’re located downtown at 1635 Chicago Avenue, across from Whole Foods and near Northwestern University. There is ample street and garage parking. We serve American regional fare for dinner seven days per week.

As one of Evanston’s longest-running restaurants, Prairie Moon holds one of Evanston’s first liquor licenses. Evanston is home to Frances Willard, the national president of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), and was a completely dry city until 1972. Liquor stores we illegal until 1984 and Evanston didn’t see its first brewery until 2012.

Owner Rob Strom was born, raised, and resides in Evanston. We’re proud to be a part of the history of this great community and known for our great food, drink, and dedication to the local needs of Evanston.
